Standard envelopes are available in many different sizes, colors and types of paper. They can also be custom-made.
A standard business envelope in the USA is known in the printing industry as a #10 commercial envelope. It measures 9.5" wide by 4.125" deep, and is used to insert a letter-sized sheet of paper that has been folded in thirds. It falls within an envelope type known as a Commercial Envelope, which is a type of business envelope which has a pointed flap and diagonal seams.
Business & Correspondence Envelopes are widely used for business and personal correspondence. Commercial and Side Seam flap styles are ideal for machine insertion. Wallet flaps provide a large area ideal for imprinting. Square flaps are contemporary, but not recommended for machine insertion. Business Envelopes are available in a variety of sizes, both with and without windows.
The standard window size and position is the same for all commercial window envelopes, regardless of the size of the envelope. It measures 4.5" wide and 1.125" deep. It is positioned 0.875" from the left side of the envelope and 0.5" from the bottom of the envelope.
A style envelopes have a square flap and are available in many sizes, colors and finishes with matching text and cover papers. They are used for announcements and informal invitations; some "A" style envelopes have a deckled (torn-looking) flap edge. A style envelopes are sold in boxes of 250.
Baronial Envelopes are used for formal business purposes. Matching panel cards and folders are available with or without a raised border panel. Color selection is usually limited to white and off-white. They are sold in boxes of 250.
